Faith and Fridays and Flowers

TIME OF COMPOSITION, EARLY OCTOBER 2008

I have to admit... I have a problem! I have a BIG bush problem. One of the fun things of buying a house with already established landscaping is that you get to play the "Guessing Game." Paul and I were able to find out what kind of apple trees we have been blessed with. We were wondering what kind of vines were actually going to come to life during the springtime. All the hidden bulbs that blossomed and brought forth color and vibrancy was pretty exciting. Well, now we have these BIG green bushes. We know that they were mums last year as we looked at the house in November. See below...

We sprinkled the seeds after the blossoms died down and now we have some rather big bushes...

As I ponder daily whether to wait for the blossoms to really appear or to transplant them to the back to "wait and see" I had a lesson on faith come to my mind. As we raise our families and as we grow as individuals, there is much to be said about faith. In a world where instant gratifications rule our carnal desires, it is the patience we develop as we have a hope in something better. When you have small children and you exercise faith in the wise counsel that families need to read scriptures daily together, have family prayer, and a night set apart to have a family home evening at times it may seem a bit daunting at first. Children don't want to sit for extended periods of time, find anything to distract others, or just have a hard time understanding the scriptural language. I must tell you that this is where faith comes in! Not long after enjoying these growing times with your children will you see them blossom. We are already seeing the understanding in our little ones grow as they experience trials or experiences where faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ is THE thing that helps bring peace and clarity in troubled times. So for now, have faith and patience. And for me more than anything we will see what becomes of the Big Bushes.

A MONTH LATER...
Well, due to either my laziness in not removing the bushes or a teensy bit of faith I decided to wait and see. About two weeks after composing the above email little buds started to appear. About a month later, blossoms, and then two weeks after that flowers bloomed. They could have been trimmed back quite a bit in the early growth stages, but I guess that is a lesson for another time.

Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. James 1: 3

Love,
Candace
